Moomomi Beach – Molokai
On the Hawaiian Island of Molokai, Moomomi Beach can be found on the island’s northwestern coast.
The area that surrounds Moomomi Beach includes an incredible site and the largest sand dunes found anywhere on Hawaii.
Due to the fact the trade winds blow towards this part of Molokai year-round, the sand is continuously blown from the Moomomi shoreline and surrounding beaches inland.
The result is an impressive sand dune that you would think lies in a remote desert.
Currently managed by the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, the whole area is part of the Moomomi Preserve.
Located on the east side of the bay is Moomomi Beach.
Getting to Moomomi Beach can be quite a challenge. There is only a ragged dirt road that should only be driven if you have a four-wheel vehicle.
The bay itself is not recommended as place for swimming or other activities due to the fact it’s both rocky and not deep. Moomomi Beach also experiences high surf and strong currents, so be very careful when entering the ocean.
Although this particular piece of coastline was at one-time a very popular fishing area, it is still known for its great fishing. So bring your fishing poles and give it a go.
