The luxurious Halekulani hotel on Oahu will be hosting its “A WEEKEND OF SUSTAINABILITY” event as part of its luxury and lifestyle series, Halekulani Living.
This wonderful event will be co-hosted by Architectural Digest and the program is scheduled from March 11 – 13, 2011, bringing together a unique partnership of two brand authorities within the hospitality and design industries.
The March weekend will offer attendees the chance to participate in a wide variety of interactive events that feature leaders in environmentally conscious design, in addition to those paving the way in creating sustainable cocktails and cuisine.
As part of Halekulani’s commitment to the local community, several of the events throughout the weekend are aimed to benefit the Culinary Institute of the Pacific and the University of Hawaii’s School of Architecture.
A collection of revered food and beverage icons, such as Chef Roy Yamaguchi (Roy’s Restaurants), Chef Vikram Garg (Halekulani), Chef Ed Kenney (Town & Downtown), along with Master Mixologist Julie Reiner (Lanikai, Cover Club) will start the weekend festivities by producing a green reception highlighting the best of local products, sustainable wines and cocktails.
Event guests are then invited to enhance their appreciation for sustainability by taking part in informational sessions featuring leading landscape architect Andrea Cochran and internationally acclaimed celebrity interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard. Architectural Digest closes the series with gala, offering special acknowledgement to Hawaii’s AD 100 Designers.
The Halekulani Living luxury and lifestyle series is designed to provide guests with immersive, authentic and memorable experiences by celebrating three distinct elements, Halekulani Connoisseurs, Halekulani Wellness and Halekulani Masterworks. These programs aim to enrich lifestyles with everyday luxury, health and wellness, culinary escapes, and masterful works of art.

Friday, March 11
· An Evening of Sustainable Cuisine (6:30 to 8:30 PM) – Enjoy cuisine highlighting the best local products prepared by Chef Roy Yamaguchi (Roy’s Restaurants), Chef Ed Kenney (Town & Downtown), Chef Vikram Garg (Halekulani),and cocktails, prepared by Master Mixologist Julie Reiner.
Saturday, March 12
· Architectural Digest Sustainable Design Summit – Spend the day in lively seminars, highlighting sustainability in Modern Architectural Design.
· Andrea Cochran, leading landscape architect, discusses how her team strives to make connections between architecture, site, and larger landscape, and how her work has at its core an inherent goal to create environmentally relevant and sustainable landscapes.
· Internationally-acclaimed interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, whose clients include Cher, Elton John, Kid Rich, Cheryl Tiegs, shares some of his celebrity designs and discusses how to maintain luxury in sustainability. Mr.Bullard also shares insight on how sustainable products and materials can aid in highlighting luxury and sophistication while remaining eco-friendly.
· Tour of IBM Building and Offices of Ferraro-Choi – examples of late architecture Valdimir Ossipoff’s influences in Hawaii.Joe Ferraro, principal of Ferraro-Chio Architects, will give a talk on the challenges of preserving the IBM Building and modernist architecture in Hawaii.
· Architectural Digest Green Gala (6:00 – 9:00 PM) – Architectural Digest celebrates sustainable design and architecture, with a special look at classic Hawaiian architecture and the future. During the event, special acknowledgment is paid to Hawaii’s AD Top 100 Designers. Guests will also enjoy Hawaii’s first non-GMO cuisine exquisitely prepared by Halekulani’s Chef Vikram Garg and his culinary team.
Sunday, March 13
· Tour of Liljestrand House (10:00 – 11:00 AM) – an outstanding example of Valdimir Ossipoff’s home designs, known for strong roof lines, deep overhangs, dark woods, native stone and built-in cabinets and fixtures.
Note that advance reservations are required for “A WEEKEND OF SUSTAINABILITY.” Events are offered on an a la-carte basis with rates ranging from $50.00 to $225.00 per person.
