With an excellent waterfront location and an extensive, reasonably priced menu, the Lahaina Fish Company eatery is one of the best bargains in all of West Maui.

The Lahaina Fish Company offers its patrons a fantastic choice of Hawaiian fresh fish, seafood, and other island fare, plus ribs, grilled steaks and chops, as well as burgers.

The Lahaina Fish Company serves many different varieties of fish in classic preparations (grilled, oven broiled or Cajun-style). Even better, all of the restaurant’s fresh fish choices are moderately priced.

My favorite choice for dinner is definitely the Mahi Mahi. It’s served with a macadamia nut crust, salmon with pineapple salsa, and hapu’upu’u roasted with bananas.

The restaurant’s full bar specializes in tasty mixed drinks and other traditional alcoholic choices to quench your thirst. A local favorite is called the Hana Rain. Simply awesome!

Beyond the wonderful food is the incredible Pacific Ocean views. The Lahaina Fish Company provides seating both on the first and second floors.

Unlike other oceanfront restaurants, Lahaina Fish Company offers open air ambiance … without windows. You can feel the calming winds and breath in that fresh sea breeze air.

The panoramic views are priceless, as you gaze over deep blue waters, out towards the Hawaiian island of Lanai.

If you truly want a magical moment, be sure to plan your meal for an unbelievable Hawaii sunset. Sunsets here are spectacular!

It’s only fitting that such an elegant venue as the Maui Prince Hotel should have a first-rate Japanese restaurant, and in Hakone, it certainly does. Hakone offers a fine dining experience with quiet elegance, proper service and notable sushi.

Designed with Zen spareness—blond woods, lots of white, generously spaced tables and a beautifully laid-out sushi bar—Hakone is quietly handsome, yet casual enough for comfort.

Hakone’s interior is very lively and bright, featuring more contemporary Japanese designs. The wood furnishings in the restaurant give a very warm feeling, which is very inviting for the hungry patron. The interior design combined with the great view of the Ala Wai boat harbor, and more importantly the view of the sunset, make for a nice setting.

The service is topnotch—you barely have to wiggle your eyebrow and someone will be refilling your water, or bringing you a hot towel. The sushi is fresh and well-prepared and the cooked dishes live up to the quality of the raw ones. Tempura comes to the table crisp and greaseless, cooked to a turn.

The ostrich katsu is served with a sweet-and-sour sauce and the hirame usuzukuri, thinly sliced halibut with ponzu sauce, is delicate yet flavorful. We also enjoy the kaiseki dinner, which comes in three varieties: seven courses, nine courses or a sushi version.

You can have a complete nabemono dinner cooked tableside for a minimum of two. Monday nights, there’s a Japanese buffet only featuring 25 specially-prepared delicacies.

Well, well. There’s one choice above all others on the island for plate lunches. We went straight to Da Kitchen. There are at least two on the island – Da Kitchen in Kahului and Da Kitchen Express in Kiehi.

You can eat in or take your food to go. They have plate lunches, sandwiches, appetizers, and other treats. I usually always get a plate lunch – you get your entree of choice, rice, and either green or macaroni salad. And these portions are big! Many people share a plate lunch. Ordering a full meal for oneself, you often end up taking food home.

Today, I ordered the Teriyaki beef with green salad. Our friends ordered the Kalua pork with macaroni salad, some noodles (can’t remember the name), and a cheeseburger. Everything was fantastic.

I normally always order the Kalua pork or Teriyaki chicken. But the beef was outstanding today. And we’ve had the chicken katsu before, and it was also good. You pretty much can’t go wrong. I knew I could not finish a whole plate lunch once, and I ordered the Kalua sandwich – holy cow! That was good.

I’ve been to Kimo’s Restaurant in Lahaina, which is much more upscale than Da Kitchen. My pal ordered the Kalua pork at Kimo’s. We decided it was good (which it was), but the pork at Da Kitchen was much better, at a fraction of the price.

The ambiance at Da Kitchen is about as casual as you can get – in Kihei it is across the street from the beaches. Submitted by: John Stevens

Bubba Gumps is a really fun place to dine. Shrimp heaven to say the least. Ocean front dining in Lahaina, Bubba Gumps is a great place to stop for lunch. The menu is moderate in price starting at $12.95 and capping at about $22.00.

Bubba Gump’s is like a box of chocolates! You never know what the great tasting food you’re going to eat there.

Bubba Gumps is open for both lunch and dinner. The menu is the same all day, so take advantage of the ambience during the day for lunch, or and early dinner. The views are outstanding of the waterfront.

The fun at Bubba Gumps begins with the license plates on the table. The license plates (sign) flips up with one side stating “Run Forrest Run” and the other side stating “Stop Forrest Stop”.

If you want the server to stop the license plate must be showing “Stop Forrest Stop”. You will be surprised how quick they stop when you flip the sign over. The staff at Bubba Gump will also come around to the tables and quiz you on the movie Forrest Gump.

The very best thing about Bubba Gump’s is the view. Do whatever you can to sit at one of the tables that overlook the water. Then order a blue Hawaiian, throw back some fried stuff, and enjoy the scenery.

Good food and good service. A must for dining in Lahaina, Maui.

Kimo’s has a loyal following that keeps it from falling into the faceless morass of waterfront restaurants serving surf-and-turf with great sunset views.

It’s a formula restaurant (sibling to Leilani’s and Hula Grill) that works not only because of its oceanfront patio and upstairs dining room but also because, for the price, there are some satisfying choices.

It’s always crowded, buzzing with people on a deck offering views of Molokai, Lanai, and Kahoolawe. Burgers and sandwiches are affordable and consistent, and the fresh catch in garlic-lemon and a sweet-basil glaze is a top seller.

The waistline-defying hula pie — macadamia-nut ice cream in a chocolate-wafer crust with fudge and whipped cream — originated here.
