Naha Stone Hilo Hawaii

The Pöhaku Naha or better known as the Naha Stone, is located on the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii, in the city of Hilo.

Naha Stone lies in front of the local library. It weighs about two and a half tons or 7,000 pounds.

Legends said that the one who could lift the stone would unite the islands of Hawaii. The huge stone was a test of royal strength.

The stone belonged to a group called the “Naha Cast” which believed only the ali’i of the Naha Cast could lift the stone.

Legend states that King Kamehameha proved them all wrong. He not only moved the stone, but actually flipped it completely over when he was only 14 years old!

In the year 1810, Kamehameha united the Hawaiian islands just like the prophecy foretold he would do.
